Corn on corn considerations

Some farmers are considering planting more corn in 2020.

Peterson Farms Seed agronomist Adam Spelhaug says for corn on corn, residue management is key.

“What kind of trash whippers, down pressure systems, everything on the planter, make sure that’s up first.”

He recommends growers also have a good plan for incorporating nitrogen.

“There probably wasn’t a lot of fall nitrogen put down, so are you going to do a half-rate in the spring and then come back and side-dress separately? That’s what I’d probably recommend anyway.”

Spelhaug tells Brownfield selecting the right traits for continuous corn will also pay off.

Peterson Farms Seed is based in North Dakota and serves growers in the Dakotas and Minnesota.
