Corn growers back E15 emergency waiver

The Chair of the Iowa Corn Growers Association says the Environmental Protection Agency’s action allowing E15 sales this summer was the right move.

Lance Lillibridge tells Brownfield the emergency waiver gives corn growers some certainty.

“It was a big relief for me as a producer,” he said. “I sure appreciate all the hard work from every single person that worked on this. It was a weight off the shoulders.”

He says E15 can help the administration reach its climate goals.

“E15 and higher ethanol blends are a low-carbon fuel source,” Lillibridge said. “With the carbon capture technology that we’re seeing come online, we can get the carbon intensity of ethanol to near-zero.”

Lillibridge says Congress could help support the issue by passing the Next Generation Fuels Act.
