Corn and soybean planting kick off in Illinois

The USDA reports corn and soybean planting both kicked off in Illinois last week.

As of Sunday, the agency reports 2% of corn is in the ground, compared to 21% at this time last year. One percent of the state’s soybeans are planted, compared to 16% at this time last year and the 5-year-average of 8%.

Winter wheat conditions saw another week-to-week decline, down 5 percentage points to 40% good to excellent with 5% headed.

There were just 1.5 days suitable for fieldwork across the state with above average rainfall.
