Corn and Soybean Associations tracking biofuels policy at Iowa Capitol

The Iowa Soybean and Corn Growers Associations are tracking biofuels policy during the 2022 Iowa Legislative Session.

Iowa Soybean Association director of public affairs Michael Dolch says ISA will be paying close attention to Governor Reynold’s proposed Biofuels Access Standard.

“We’re focused specifically on the biodiesel side, looking for opportunities to grow biodiesel consumption here in the state. Which in turn helps grow demand for soybeans, soybean oil, and in turn reflects higher soybean prices.”

Iowa Corn Growers president Lance Lillibridge, who farms in Vinton County, tells Brownfield the Association wants to maintain funding for the Iowa Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Program.

He also expects another attempt by Reynolds to get an E15 standard across the finish line.

“I really do. I think that we’re going to see that again and that it’s going to be slightly revised, and we’re going to be supportive of that. Iowa is the number one ethanol producer in the world (and) we need to show that our product is of quality and that we like using it.”

Lillibridge is optimistic lawmakers will pass an E15 standard as long as the Governor “gets the wording right.”
