Corn and rice planting begin in Arkansas

The USDA reports corn and rice planting are both underway in Arkansas.

As of Sunday, 2% of corn is in the ground compared to 4% at this time last year and the 5-year average of 11%. Rice planting began last week with 1% planted, compared to 2% on average.

One percent of winter wheat is headed, compared to the average 5% and USDA rates the crop 72% good to excellent.

The majority of hay and pasture are considered fair condition for the end of March, while topsoil moisture is 96% adequate to surplus.
