Corn 46%, soybeans 17% harvested in Tennessee

Dry weather and moderate temperatures in Tennessee helped farmers pick up harvest pace.  The UDSA says yields are “strong” for both corn and beans. 

Corn is 46% harvested with 91% mature and 75% rated good to excellent.  Soybeans are 17% harvested and 62% dropping leaves, with 74% of the crop rated good to excellent.

Cotton is 3% harvested, with 75% rated good to excellent and 65% of bolls opening. Tobacco is 75% cut and 70% is rated good to excellent.

Pastures are rated 59% good to excellent.  Overall, hay condition and quality has been above average, 70% rated good to excellent, but reduced yields are still being reported.   

Winter wheat is 4% planted. 

Some regions of the state are entering the abnormally dry category with topsoil 62% and subsoil is 68% adequate.
