Cooper: things are looking up for renewable fuels industry

Renewable Fuels Association President and CEO Geoff Cooper says there’s more optimism in the renewable fuels industry today than there has been in recent years.

“I think there is a belief in the marketplace today that this administration and EPA are going to uphold the RFS and return some stability and certainty to the program, which helps bring certainty and stability to the marketplace,” he says.

And, he tells Brownfield the positive signals help the industry plan for the future.

“That feeling is palpable today and is reflected in RIN prices, the strong and healthy supply and demand balance that we’re seeing right now, and we’re seeing growth in production and blending again coming out of the pandemic,” he says.

Cooper spoke to Brownfield recently after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit ordered three small refinery exemptions be vacated and remanded back to the EPA.
