Cooler temps, rain help alleviate crop stress in Nebraska

Cooler temperatures and rain last week helped alleviate crop stress in some parts of Nebraska, but overall crop ratings still declined slightly from last week.

Corn is rated 59 percent good to excellent, down two points. Sixteen percent of the corn crop is rated poor to very poor. Soybeans come in at 58 percent good to excellent, also down two points. Thirteen percent of soybeans are rated poor to very poor.

The third cutting of alfalfa was 65 percent complete with fourth cutting at 12 percent. The alfalfa crop rated 45 percent good to excellent. Pasture and range conditions were called 28 percent good to excellent, with 35 percent poor to very poor.
