Cool temperatures limited Ohio fieldwork last week

Scattered storms limited Ohio farmers from fieldwork last week.

USDA’s National Ag Statistics Service reporters say field conditions were largely favorable but temperature fluctuations deterred farmers from planting.

Sixty-one percent of Ohio’s oats are planted with 19% emerging.  Just six percent of the state’s corn and soybeans have been planted.

Eighty-four percent of fields have adequate topsoil moisture and 11% have surplus moisture.

Wheat stands are greening and have favorable development with 69% of the wheat jointing.

Ohio farmers did get some manure hauling, tillage, tile work, and preemergence spraying finished.
