Construction to begin on U of I Feed Technology Center

Construction will begin June 3rd on the new state-of-the-art Feed Technology Center on the University of Illinois’ Champaign-Urbana campus.

The new building will have storage, processing, mixing, extruding and bagging systems and will deliver 8,000 tons of specialized small-batch research diets per year.

Kim Kidwell, Dean of the College of ACES, says the center is “a game changing asset” that will allow the university to expand their research designed to support food production and animal well-being, while educating animal nutrition and feed science students.

The College of ACES has invested $6 million to start the construction and has invited private partners to contribute to the $20 million facility. Alltech and Illinois Farm Bureau have already committed to the project.

Construction is expected to finish in September of 2020.
