Congressional Biofuels Caucus “paying incredibly close attention” as EPA finalizes RFS rulemaking

The bipartisan Congressional Biofuels Caucus is urging the Biden administration to protect and strengthen the Renewable Fuel Standard.

Minnesota Democrat Angie Craig is a co-chair and says members of her party who represent rural communities “are paying incredibly close attention” as EPA works to finalize RFS rulemaking.

“And have very strong feelings about the actions (the EPA) will or will not take to support the communities that we represent.”

The Caucus is encouraging EPA to maintain blending requirements for 2022, deny all pending Small Refinery Exemptions, and reconsider proposed retroactive cuts to 2020 and 2021 Renewable Volume Obligations.

“That would be an unprecedented action, and it would really deal a significant blow to the future integrity of the Renewable Fuel Standard.”

In a letter to EPA Administrator Michael Regan, the Biofuels Caucus said biofuels play a key role in reducing carbon emissions, generate economic growth, and reduce the cost of fuel.

Caucus members who signed the letter from Brownfield states:  Cheri Bustos (IL), Cindy Axne (IA), Ron Kind and Mark Pocan (WI).
