Congress likely to discuss more coronavirus relief

Discussions about more coronavirus relief are expected in Washington this week.

The Senate will be back for the first time since March and members are expected to debate new aid requests including some from the ag sector.  The House Appropriations Committee is meeting Wednesday to discuss CARES 2, which is another coronavirus response package.  The full House will not go into session until next week.

While lawmakers work on the early stages of CARES 2, much of the money from the first coronavirus relief package is still on hold awaiting rulemaking.  The USDA still must release rules and determine how farmers can sign up for the sixteen billion in direct payments, and Secretary Sonny Perdue reportedly wants to start sending out those payments by the end of this month.
