Clock is ticking on Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act

Many Iowa cattlemen are hopeful Congress will advance a cattle reform bill before the November 8th midterm elections.

Matt Deppe is executive director of the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association. “The momentum is there. The question is going to be whether we can fit this into a priority list of different legislative bills that can hit both the Senate and House bill in 18 days,” he said.

Republican US Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa sponsors the bill, and tells Brownfield the legislation has bipartisan support, but, “We got to get (Chuck) Schumer to put it on the agenda,” Grassley said. “That I cannot give you an optimistic point of view because he told (Senator) Tester he was going to do it during July, and it did not happen during July.”

The bill has advanced out of the Ag Committee and awaits action before the full Senate.
