Climate change tops policy priorities for The Fertilizer Institute

Brownfield’s Rhiannon Branch interviewing Corey Rosenbusch at the 2020 Commodity Classic in San Antonio.

Environment and climate change policy tops the list of priorities for The Fertilizer Institute this year.

President and CEO Corey Rosenbusch tells Brownfield that coincides with a large focus on climate change by the Biden administration, which in some ways they are optimistic about.

“We believe that farmers have a tremendous opportunity to have an impact with carbon capture and being paid for carbon credits. We would support that type of a scheme that benefits the US farmer as well as the fertilizer industry.”

But, Rosenbusch says they will work to ensure new climate change policies protect the global competitiveness of the fertilizer industry for their farmer companies.

“Fertilizer manufacturing is energy intensive and trade exposed, so any kind of environmental policy that does come out of this administration needs to carefully consider those factors as far as it impacts the fertilizer industry and the farmer.”

He says trade, inland waterway infrastructure, energy and economic growth, safety, and fertilizer innovation are also on their list of policy priorities for the year.
