CHS grows access to E15 fuels

The nation’s largest farmer-owned cooperative is increasing access to higher blends of ethanol by offering E15 at 10 additional terminals.

Akhtar Hussain, director of refined fuels and marketing with CHS, tells Brownfield they’re seeing increased demand at the pumps for E15. “As some of these blends have become more common place and become widely understood, we felt that it was a good opportunity to leverage our footprint to provide more options for consumers.”

He says beginning in April terminals in Nebraska, South Dakota, Iowa and Kansas will offer the flex fuel. “We’ve seen 88 octane fuel or E15 gain some favor in the market place,” he says. “At the same time, we see it as a great opportunity for our farmer owners to introduce some more of that product into the fuel system.”

He says demand will dictate when and where the fuel will become more widely available. “I think we’ll equate to retailers in those areas raising their hands saying ‘we want to sell it’,” he said.

Hussain says CHS is committed to offering more fuel options for drivers.
