CHS CEO says propane issues at harvest are possible

The CEO of the nation’s largest agricultural cooperative warns farmers propane supply issues could impact harvest.

Jay Debertin tells Brownfield CHS is an extremely large marketer of propane.

“And there have really been a lot of changes within that propane industry in terms of export capability. That’s why we’re working hard with local cooperatives who own us around supply planning.”

He says supplies will likely tighten heading into the fall simply because there’s been so much investment by propane producers looking to export.

“And as the picture becomes clearer and clearer as to how this crop is going to mature, I encourage farmers to think about their propane needs and not wait until they’re ready to turn dryers on to be placing orders.”

CHS operates petroleum refineries and pipelines and manufactures, markets and distributes Cenex brand refined fuels, lubricants, propane, and renewable energy products.
