China trade team to accommodate President Trump Jan. 15th signing announcement

The South China Morning Post reports Chinese trade officials had to alter plans to accommodate President Trump’s announcement that the phase one signing ceremony would take place January 15th in Washington.

The Post says the delegation originally planned to set off earlier in the month, but decided to change their travel schedule after Trump tweeted on New Year’s Eve that “high representatives from Beijing” would visit the White House January 15th to sign the deal.

American Soybean Association president Bill Gordon, a farmer in southwest Minnesota, tells Brownfield ASA is ready for the trade war to be over.

“(hope) They can get in the same room (and) finalize it. And hats off to our ambassadors Doud and Lighthizer. They’ve done an exceptional job negotiating these trade deals. That group is just some of the best in the world.”

China’s trade delegation plans to arrive in the U.S. January 13th and depart on the 16th.

China has pledged to purchase between $40 and $50 billion of agricultural goods from the U.S. as part of the phase one agreement.
