China moves to update milk powder guidelines

China has proposed modified guidelines for imported milk powder.  USDA says China’s National Health Commission and their Administration of Market Regulation submitted revisions for the rule to the World Trade Organization, and the comment period has passed.  The proposal would call for powder to have no less than 70% dairy solids, clarify the sensory testing method, and update limits on contaminants, mycotoxins, and microbial limits.

USDA says China has not yet announced a proposed date to implement the new language in the milk powder standard.
