China leading destination for weekly export inspections

The USDA says China was the top destination for U.S. corn, sorghum, soybean, and wheat export inspections during the week ending March 4th, 2021. The 2020/21 marketing year started June 1st, 2020 for wheat and September 1st, 2020 for beans, corn, and sorghum. The USDA’s next set of supply and demand estimates is out Tuesday, March 9th at Noon Eastern/11 Central.

Wheat came out at 482,130 tons, up 140,692 from the week ending February 25th and 22,265 from the week ending March 5th, 2020. The top destinations were China and South Korea. Early in the fourth quarter of the 2020/21 marketing year, wheat inspections are 18,590,132 tons, compared to 19,273,729 in 2019/20.

Corn was reported at 1,544,460 tons, 502,252 less than the previous week, but 714,595 more than this time last year. The leading destinations were China and Japan. Just over the halfway point in the marketing year, corn inspections are 27,623,735, compared to 15,036,394 a year ago.

Soybeans were pegged at 587,594 tons, 416,361 lower than the week before and 2,306 under a year ago. The main destinations were China and Egypt. So far, this marketing year, soybean inspections are 52,591,502 tons, compared to 30,0211,758 last year.

Sorghum totaled 191,103 tons, an increase of 69,952 on the week and 132,392 on the year. Almost all of the weekly total headed to China. 2020/21 sorghum inspections are 3,774,848 tons, compared to 1,460,388 in 2019/20.
