Chick-fil-A accuses poultry companies of price-fixing

Fast-food giant Chick-fil-A is the latest to accuse major poultry suppliers of price-fixing.  The lawsuit, filed in a US District Court in Chicago last week, alleges that top chicken suppliers coordinated pricing for meat supplies, inflating prices on billions of dollars of chicken.

Since June, the Justice Department has charged several current and former chicken-company employees in the agency’s ongoing investigation.  And last month the Department named Chick-fil-A, KFC, Popeyes, Kroger, Walmart, and others as victims of the alleged long-running effort of chicken-company executives working to coordinate bids.

In October, Pilgrim’s Pride agreed to pay $110.5 million to settle federal charges that it had helped fix prices and then passed those higher costs for chicken on to consumers.
