CFAP 2 reopens today

Sign up for the second round of the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program, better known as CFAP 2, re-opens today, April 5th.

US Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced in late March the program will be open for at least 60 days now that updates have been made including additional funding for the program. The program originally closed in December but is now re-opened for all eligible producers.

USDA has also announced $2 million will be used to establish partnerships with organizations and provide outreach and technical assistance to disadvantaged farmers and ranchers.

Both are part of the $6 billion USDA Pandemic Assistance for Producers, a new initiative under the Biden administration.

  • I applied before and was denied by FSA St. Martin Parish. I have an 1824 historical black family farm. I planted 5.28 acres of Mustard Greens (which is a covered crop under Title 21 CFR Part 112.1) and Collard Greens. COVID-19 caused me problems in being able to sell both crop. I decided to donate my crop to people in need since I had a surplus. I appealed the FSA denial and have to attend a court hearing in order to defend my position on donating my crop since FSA said CFAP2 only works with farmers who “SELL” their crop.
