Census of Ag deadline approaches

Farmers and ranchers have until February 6^th to fill out the 2022 Census of Agriculture.

Lance Honig with the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service tells Brownfield the survey helps the agency make policy decisions.

“Things like farm and conservation programs,” he said. “Think about infrastructure. Where do companies need to build facilities? Where do they need to distribute their products? They need good data to base those decisions on.”

He says farmers can feel confident their information is protected.

“There are multiple laws in place that ensure anything you report to NASS is absolutely protected. No one can gain access to that,” Honig said. “All of the folks here at NASS sign annual confidentiality certifications ensuring that we know what the rules are.”

Honig says the agency recommends filling out the census online at nass.usda.gov.
