Censky: USDA urges lifting of steel/aluminum tariffs

The U.S.-China trade dispute is getting most of the headlines. But for many in agriculture, the steel and aluminum tariffs on Canada and Mexico, and their retaliatory duties on U.S. goods, are just as concerning.

During a stop in Lincoln, Nebraska Thursday, USDA Deputy Secretary Steve Censky told Brownfield the he and others in the agency are urging President Trump and top trade officials to lift those steel and aluminum tariffs.

“We’ve been sending from USDA, and I know Secretary Perdue has been talking to Ambassador Lighthizer as well as the White House, that we do need to remove those retaliatory duties,” Censky says. “Whether it’s dairy or whether it’s our pork exports, or other exports to Mexico and in some cases Canada, we need to remove those.”

Censky was in Lincoln for a speech at the University of Nebraska.
