Cattle producer prepares for bitter cold weather

A southwest Iowa cattle producer says he’s bracing for a cold snap next week.

“It seems like you can never be prepared for the sub-zero temperatures,” said Duane Aistrope.

The Fremont County farmer tells Brownfield he will take additional steps to help keep his 80-head of cattle healthy.

“We’ll make sure the cattle have plenty of fresh water, which is a challenge keeping them all open and freeze-free,” Aistrope said. “Then we actually increase the intake of feed consumption a little bit.”

Aistrope says having extra bedding will be another priority.
