Casey’s announcement provides boost to higher ethanol blends

Efforts to sell higher blends of ethanol fuel received a boost this week from Casey’s General Stores.

The Iowa-based convenience store chain announced it will begin offering the higher blends of E15 and E85 at 17 sites in Iowa, Illinois and Kansas.

Casey’s spokesman Doug Beech tells Brownfield the results of the pilot project will determine if they expand the list of locations.

“We want to test it and see if there’s a market there for it,” Beech says. “We thought it might be a good time to help the local farm economy a little bit, so we’re trying that out. We hope it sells and works out well.”

There is no timetable for deciding whether to expand the list of locations, Beech says. The initial 17 sites are all new stores being built by Casey’s.

Casey’s is the fourth largest convenience store chain in the U.S. with nearly two-thousand locations across 15 states.
