Carbon market opportunities abound at 2023 Iowa Ag Expo

Farmers are learning about carbon market opportunities at the Iowa Ag Expo in Des Moines.

Cindy Feldman is one of the organizers of the Expo and tells Brownfield there are about a half dozen booths featuring carbon market programs, including Agoro Carbon Alliance.

Agoro area sales manager Clay Craighton says he’s getting a lot of questions from farmers.

“A lot of the ones that come up (ask) ‘what exactly is carbon farming, like what are we doing here?’ Is this some snake oil thing we’re trying to sell, and stuff like that.”

He tells Brownfield Agoro is looking to partner with farmers, not sell to them.  And the farm show is an opportunity to inform.

“One of the main questions (is) ‘Is this here to stay? How are their markets looking in the future? How about legacy no-till guys, guys who have been doing (no-till) for years, where can they get involved? Or certain situations like that.”

Agoro offers ten-year contracts with two different payment options.
