Businesses, investors push for ambitious greenhouse gas emissions cuts

More than 300 businesses and investors have expressed support for ambitious U.S. emissions reduction targets. What is called the We Mean Business coalition’s letter to President Biden says the U.S. must adopt an emissions reduction target that puts the country on a credible path to reach net-zero emissions by mid-century. To get there, the coalition calls for cutting greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50 percent below 2005 levels by 2030.

The 310 signers, including Apple, McDonald’s, and Kellogg’s, collectively represent over $3 trillion in annual revenue and employ nearly 6 million U.S. workers. The Biden administration is expected to announce its targets pursuant to the Paris Agreement before the Leaders Summit on Climate later this month.
