Brazilian state moves toward improved roads to move crops to port

One of Brazil’s key farm production states is pushing to expand highway access to ports.  According to Bloomberg, Mato Grosso’s Governor will soon auction more than 300 miles in road construction and investment to create connecting roads from farmland to the Brazil’s main north-south highway.

Oilseed growers say the additional roads might reduce producer costs by 16%, and Bloomberg says it would shorten the time for trucks to reach the Santos port, allowing faster movement of soybeans to China through the Panama Canal.

Mato Grosso leaders want to compete for another 870 miles of roads by 2022.  Many will be privately funded toll roads.
