Boozman says farm bill listening sessions are critical

The Ranking Member of the Senate Ag Committee is encouraging farmers to participate in farm bill listening sessions.

Republican John Boozman of Arkansas says it’s an opportunity to hear directly from farmers about the issues they are facing.

“The solutions need to come from the ground up,” he said. “Having these kind of meetings where you are talking to the producers and talking to the people who are actually out in the field, there is no other way to do this.”

He tells Brownfield farm safety net funding has been one of the biggest priorities for producers.

“Crop insurance and ARC/PLC,” Boozman said. “These are the programs that farmers depend on so that they will have a floor and so that they can go to the bank and get their loans.”

Boozman says there’s also been a push from livestock producers for funding to help prevent foreign animal disease outbreaks.
