Bond claims sought following Karlstad Elevator closure

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is advising farmers who conducted business with a recently closed grain elevator in the northwest corner of the state to file claims.

The Karlstad Farmers Elevator in Karlstad held a bond with the Department to help grain sellers and depositors mitigate any losses upon its closure.

Farmers who have not received payment or who had grain stored at the elevator should submit a bond claim, which can be found on the MDA website.

The Department of Ag is also asking for supporting evidence like scale tickets, purchase agreements, and warehouse receipts.

MDA plans to review all submitted claims, and says the deadline is dependent on the date on non-payment.
