Big meeting between Trump and Xi later this week

The highly anticipated meeting between President Trump and Chinese President Xi will take place later this week on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in Buenos Aires.

Reports indicate the meeting will take place on Saturday.

China has been sending signals that it is prepared to negotiate on U.S. demands. But many analysts are doubtful there will be a significant breakthrough in settling the trade war.

David Dollar, a senior fellow with the Brookings Institution, says the two presidents could announce an agreement in principle, with key areas outlined, and details to be worked out in subsequent negotiations. But he says it’s also possible that the U.S. will take a tough line and follow through on its threat to impose more tariffs on Chinese good on January 1st.
