Biden criticized for ignoring biofuels as gas prices hit 7-year high

President Biden is drawing criticism from biofuel supporters after calling on OPEC nations to increase oil output as gas prices escalate.

The Renewable Fuels Association recently sent a letter to the White House supporting the administration’s call for an investigation into the true causes of recent higher gas prices.  RFA CEO Geoff Cooper says rather than hoping Iraq, Iran, Venezuela, and other OPEC countries provide the cure, the immediate solution is increased production and use of low-carbon renewable fuels like ethanol.

Iowa U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley agrees.

“They’re really on the right track when they raise the questions about when we’ve got homegrown fuel for our cars, why he would want to import more oil (and) have them pump more.”

Indiana’s U.S. Senators are also urging Biden to reverse his decision.

Republicans Todd Young and Mike Braun say it’s astonishing the administration is seeking assistance from an international oil cartel when America has sufficient domestic supplies and reserves to increase output.

Last month, gasoline prices hit a seven-year high and are up 40 percent since the beginning of the year.
