Biden admin announces $4B investment in port infrastructure upgrades

The Biden administration is investing $4 billion in low-carbon infrastructure upgrades for the nation’s ports to help make the shipment of ag commodities more efficient.

Michael Regan, Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, says the new Clean Ports Program will help reduce pollution at U.S. ports and create a zero-emission shipping future.

“If our ports are more efficient, and if our ports have more opportunities to deliver and accept goods, that’s good for rural America and that’s good for agriculture,” he said.

The agency says it’s also developing a Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicle Program, which invests an additional $1 billion to reduce emissions through electrification.

Regan tells Brownfield the agency will take public input through June 5th and funding for the upgrades will come from the Inflation Reduction Act.
