Bayer welcomes EPA’s glyphosate decision

Bayer Crop Science spokesman Darren Wallis says they were very pleased with the EPA’s recent reaffirmation that glyphosate is safe to use and is not carcinogenic.

“The EPA confirmed what we’ve known for some time—that this is a valuable product and it is safe when used according to the label,” Wallis says. “The beautiful part of the United States’ regulatory system, and EPA is part of that, is that it is science based. We strongly advocate for a science-based regulatory review, because when things are based in science, they have predictability to move forward.”

Wallis says Bayer will continue to stand behind Roundup, despite the legal challenges it currently faces.

“What growers should feel very confident in, is that we stand behind the science. We are actively participating in this legal process and we’re working hard to ensure that these products are available to them and continue to be the cornerstone of their farming operations.”

Wallis is the vice president for North America communications for Bayer.
