Bayer leaders discuss future of new company

It’s official.  Nearly two years from the day it was announced Monsanto would merge with Bayer Crop Science, Bayer executives met with a select group of reporters at the former Monsanto St. Louis campus on Wednesday.

Liam Condon, President of the Crop Science Division of Bayer told Brownfield this new company brings together a state of the art technology platform and the best talent in the agricultural space

“It’s a phenomenal combination that we think will really think will benefit farmers. We also think it will benefit consumers and the planet because we will have a very high emphasis on sustainability going forward.”

Through science and innovation, Condon says this new company will help farmers use inputs in a better way.

“I honestly think over time we’ll be moving away from what I call an input-based business model where we are selling volumes of inputs and rather moving towards outcomes for farmers. So, what you want is a disease-free field, a weed-free field and we would rather get paid for that outcome than for the inputs that we’re selling and that’s what we are trying to work for with the new combined company”.

Condon was joined by Monsanto’s Global Chief Operating Officer Brett Begemann to answer questions regarding future plans, data and analytics, sustainability and changes for the new company.
