Bayer expands organic vegetable seeds

Bayer has announced it will commercially launch an organic seed portfolio for the 2022 season.

The company says crops will be geared toward the greenhouse and glasshouse markets including organic tomatoes, sweet peppers and cucumbers, and first available in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Spain, and Italy.

Inci Dannenberg tells Brownfield grower customers in green and glasshouses represent the fastest-growing environment for organic seed production.

“There are opportunities to expand out geographically and also there are other crops, driven by our grower customer demand,” she says.

Bayer says the expansion is driven by global consumer demand for organic products and coincides with the United Nation’s International Year of Fruits and Vegetables for 2021.
