Bayer acquires Monsanto stock, companies still operating independently

Bayer completed the acquisition of Monsanto stock today but company leaders say it will take some time before they stop using the Monsanto name.

Bayer Crop Science Division President Liam Condon says, “Some authorities need a bit more time because of their regulatory procedures and this will take approximately two months, so in that time period, Bayer and Monsanto will continue to operate as two separate entities.”

Condon says until Bayer sells some of its assets to BASF over the next couple of months, Monsanto will continue to operate independently.  “Technically, Monsanto is still a competitor because it’s run as a separate company, and at Bayer, we don’t have access to confidential information on the side of Monsanto.  That will only happen after this additional two month period is over.”

Once Bayer divests products to satisfy regulatory requirements, Condon will lead the combined Bayer and Monsanto crop sciences division under the Bayer name.

Monsanto shareholders are being paid 128-dollars a share, and Monsanto shares are no longer being traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
