ASF training about communication

Missouri’s Ag Director says the recent ASF preparedness training in Missouri and 13 other states focused on communication.

Chris Chinn tells Brownfield Ag News if there is a report of ASF anywhere in the U.S., all modes of communication will be used.

“We’re going to do text messages. We’re going to be reaching out to our partners through the university extension agencies. We’re going to be working with the veterinary community. We’re going to be working with all the agriculture organizations within the state to get our message out.”

Chinn says it’s not just about ASF in Missouri but in all states…and during the training they worked to perfect their response.

“We were talking about plans and our ‘what ifs.’ What are we going to do if it hits in Iowa? What are we going to do if it hits in Oklahoma?”

Chinn says it’s imperative that all hog producers have their Secure Pork Supply plans in place in the event of ASF in the U.S.
