ASA pleased highway extension in CR

The American Soybean Association is glad there’s at least a one-year extension of the current Surface Transportation program in the short-term budget continuing resolution in Congress. But ASA’s government affairs director Alexa Combelic says, ”While we’re thankful to see a one-year extension, long term surface transportation bills are really critically for meaningful investments in our roads and bridges.”

She says a five-year reauthorization of the program is needed because there is also a shortfall in the Highway Trust Fund, “Since the impact of COVID-related travel restrictions have been assessed we’re seeing a deepening shortfall from the lower gas tax revenues than previously anticipated.”

Combelic made her comments on a virtual Agri-Pulse event.
