Arrest made in cattle theft from S.D. auction barn
You may recall a story earlier this year involving the overnight theft of 188 head of cattle from a Watertown, South Dakota auction barn. Well, it looks like it was an inside job. Codington County sheriff Toby Wishard says Joey Varner of Pierz, Minnesota has been charged with aggravated grand theft in the case.
“Joe Varner is co-owner of Watertown Livestock, and he’s also owner and co-owner of several other livestock auctions in the states of South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota,” Wishard says.
Wishard says at the time they were stolen, the cattle were under the control of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, pending sale at Watertown Livestock Auction. The cattle have been located.
Thanks to Jody Heemstra of KWAT.
I recently had a partial load of cattle stolen off a truck. the load left Ky to Wisc. Where do I start to get this solved. The local law enforcement in Wisc. believe the livestock co. I personally do not.
