Arkansas farmer says it’s been a good harvest from start to finish

Harvest is winding down for Newport, Arkansas farmer Derek Haigwood.

He tells Brownfield this has been one of the most successful crop years ever.  “It’s the best rice crop I’ve had,” he says.  “The corn crop is the best I’ve seen since 2013.  I’m very impressed with the yields.”

Haigwood was cutting beans when he spoke with Brownfield on Tuesday.  “I hate to say it, but yeah, it’s really good,” he says.  “Yields are 76 bushels to the acre.  I’m tickled to death.  They’re really good, the quality looks really good.  It’s not one of those years where we have a lot of damage or something like that.  I’m really, just tickled.”

Haigwood says it will take about 3 good weather days to wrap up harvest.
