Another mixed week for export inspections

The USDA says that as of the week ending September 5th, 2019/20 wheat and sorghum export inspections are ahead of their 2018/19 paces, while corn and soybeans trail last marketing year. The 2019/20 marketing year got underway June 1st for wheat and September 1st for beans, corn, and sorghum.

Wheat came out at 402,486 tons, down 156,037 from the week ending August 29th and 39,106 lower than the week ending September 6th, 2018. The primary destinations for the week were Thailand and Japan. At this point in the 2019/20 marketing year, wheat inspections are 7,000,841 tons, compared to 5,705,289 in 2018/19.

Corn was reported at 590,013 tons, 232,229 more than the previous week, but 193,482 less than this time last year. The top destinations were Mexico and Japan. Early in the marketing year, corn inspections are 449,958 tons, compared to 678,521 a year ago.

Soybeans were pegged at 906,029 tons, a drop of 384,385 from the week before and 21,306 below a year ago. China was the leading destinations, followed by Mexico. So far, this marketing year, soybean inspections are 501,778 tons, compared to 834,330 last year.

Sorghum inspections were 33,304 tons, a decrease of 55,414 on the week, but an increase of 31,530 on the year. Eritrea received most of the week’s total, with the remainder going to Mexico. 2019/20 sorghum inspections are 32,297 tons, compared to 1,510 in 2018/19.
