Another case of avian flu in Iowa

eggsThe Iowa Department of Agriculture is reporting another probable case of avian influenza.  This one involves a commercial egg laying operation in Wright County with an estimated one million birds.

Officials say the operation has been quarantined and that once the presence of the disease is confirmed, all birds on the property will be humanely euthanized to prevent the spread of the disease.

The ag department also announced that all sites previously infected by avian flu in Iowa have now been depopulated. Disposal of affected birds is ongoing using composting, burial, incineration and landfills.

Some 34 million birds in Iowa had been affected by the virus, including nearly 33 million chickens and more than one million turkeys.
