An omnibus spending bill wish list

The National Farmers Union would like to see key priorities cross the finish line before Congress leaves Washington D.C. President Rob Larew says there are easy, bipartisan items Congress could include in the end of the year omnibus spending package, including a special investigator bill.

“There really should be no major objections for it. That would be part of our efforts to get more eyes looking at concentrated markets.”

Along with market concentration, the 2023 Farm Bill will also be a priority for the National Farmers Union.

“Some of these issues around competition, especially for livestock markets, really has a strong possibility as we look at the next farm bill. It’s only one piece of what we’ll be looking at though. We’d like to see greater certainty with disaster assistance and the safety net in Title I programs are as strong as possible. All of those things are in play.”

Larew was scheduled to attend the South Dakota Farmers Union convention on Friday, but was unable to attend due to the blizzard.
