Agronomist provides northwest Iowa crop update
A precision agronomist says crop conditions have been favorable in northwest Iowa despite the abnormally dry conditions.
Nathan Johnson is with Advanced Agrilytics.
“We didn’t really start with anything in the tank this spring,” he said. “We have been catching a few smaller rains that keeps feeding us along until we need that next rain about 10 days later. Things are looking pretty good.”
He tells Brownfield crops are entering critical phases of development.
“We are just getting to tassel,” Johnson said. “If we are not at tassel, we will be there in the next week or so. Soybeans are in that R1 to R3 stage.”
The latest drought monitor shows northwest Iowa is under the severe and extreme drought categories.
