AgrAbility demonstration farm opening in Michigan

A West Michigan farmer is opening his operation to host the first of its kind assistive technology demonstration farm.

Bev Berens with Michigan AgrAbility tells Brownfield the farm will highlight what resources are available to keep farmers with disabilities working.

“You’re not just helping yourself; you’re really helping the spouse as well because who do people go to lean on the most when they can’t do it themselves? It’s the spouse.”

Doug Ver Hoeven is a board member who has been farming from a wheelchair for more than 40 years and will be opening his working farm to let people try equipment before they make an investment.

“He not only has what works now but he knows well the progression of assistive technology tools that can help them.”

Michigan AgrAbility is coordinating tours for those interested in learning about assistive technology available.
