Ag-supported ethanol tax credit bill to be discussed in Michigan

Michigan legislation supporting homegrown biofuels is expected to come up for possible Senate committee action this month.

A spokesman for State Senator Kevin Daley tells Brownfield Senate Bill 814 is not on the June calendar yet but should be soon.  SB814 is the bill proposing to boost the production of biofuels, expand Michigan E15 use, and offer qualifying retailers a tax credit for every gallon of biofuel sold.

The proposed tax credit is five cents a gallon for E15 and 8.5 cents a gallon for E85.

The Daley bill is supported by several farmers and farm organizations including the Michigan Corn Growers Association, the Michigan Agri-Business Association, Michigan Farmers Union, and Clean Fuels Michigan.

The legislation was introduced on January 12th and referred to the Agriculture and Bioeconomy Committee, where it has seen no action so far.
