Ag Secretary Perdue says he doesn’t think Dec. 15 tariff hike will take effect

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says the US is unlikely to impose the next round of tariffs on Chinese goods.

An additional 15 percent tariff on Chinese products is set to take effect December 15th. Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue told reporters Monday that he doesn’t think the tariff hike will be imposed.

“I don’t think the president wants to implement these new tariffs but there has to be some movement on their part to encourage him not to do that,” he says. “Hopefully the signal that they sent over pork and soy reduction might be that signal.”

China recently waived tariffs for some imports of US soybeans, pork, and other commodities to meet domestic demand.

Perdue spoke at the 48th annual National Grain and Feed Association’s Country Elevator Conference.
