Ag groups thankful WOTUS has been repealed

Ag groups are applauding the repeal of the 2015 Waters of the U.S. Rule.

The National Pork Producers Council says prior to the rule, EPA’s jurisdiction was over waterways, but the proposed regulations would have included land adjacent to waters like farm fields.

American Soybean Association president Davie Stevens says they also want clean water, but the proposed rule was unworkable, impractical and went way beyond the intent of Congress.

The National Milk Producers Federation is applauding the measure and says in 2014 they urged the EPA to rethink the rule saying that the proposal at the time didn’t coincide with Supreme Court rulings.

The National Corn Growers Association says they’re encouraged by the announcement and farmers are one step closer to clarity on effectively implementing stewardship practices.

National Cattleman Beef Association president Jennifer Houston says after years of fighting the rule, they’re thankful the rule of law has been restored.

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says repealing the rule is a major win for agriculture and President Trump is making good on his promise to reduce burdensome regulations.
