Ag groups oppose EPA motion on 2018 small refinery exemptions

Biofuel and ag leaders are opposing EPA’s move to remand but not vacate small refinery exemptions (SRE) that were granted under the former Trump administration.

A joint statement was released by Growth Energy, the Renewable Fuels Association, National Corn Growers Association, National Biodiesel Board, American Coalition for Ethanol and National Farmers Union.

The coalition says it’s encouraged to see EPA is reviewing 31 cases but the agency’s motion to remand without a deadline doesn’t address the “ongoing damage to the biofuel industry.”

The groups are urging the Biden administration to ask the D.C. Circuit Court to vacate the SREs or set a deadline for reconsidering the petitions.

And the groups say they’re looking to the administration to “renew the bond” with producers by “restoring certainty and integrity to the Renewable Fuel Standard.”
